Day by day

The itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrive in Leh (3,500 m)

    Rest and acclimatise. Expedition welcome and briefing in the evening.

  2. Day 2

    Leh acclimatisation

    Monastery visits and gentle walks to aid altitude adjustment.

  3. Day 3

    Drive to Chilling & trek to Skiu

    Enter the Markha Valley on an easy first day beside the river.

  4. Day 4

    Skiu to Markha

    A classic valley-floor walk past hamlets and mani walls.

  5. Day 5

    Markha to Thachungtse

    Ascend towards the peaks with the Kang Yatse massif ahead.

  6. Day 6

    Thachungtse to Nimaling (4,700 m)

    Reach the high meadows that serve as expedition base camp.

  7. Day 7

    Skills & acclimatisation day

    Rope, crampon and ice-axe practice; rest and hydration.

  8. Day 8

    Summit Kang Yatse II (6,250 m)

    Non-technical but demanding summit day — superb views and vital acclimatisation for the main peak.

  9. Day 9

    Rest & recovery at Nimaling

    A full recovery day before moving onto the harder objective.

  10. Day 10

    Move to Advanced Base Camp

    Establish high camp on Kang Yatse I; early night.

  11. Day 11

    Summit Kang Yatse I (6,401 m)

    Alpine start for the technical main summit, then descend to Nimaling.

  12. Day 12

    Kongmaru La (5,260 m) to Shang Sumdo

    Cross the high pass and descend the gorge; drive to Leh.

  13. Day 13

    Departure

    Transfer to Leh airport with two summits behind you.
